Life change.. and bitching

Yesterday I turned in my two weeks at Petco. I'm moving up to bigger and better things, it seems.

Sad to leave? Perhaps. My coworkers were surprisingly awesome and all of us got along swimmingly. It was nice to be surrounded by cute little animals on every shift. I've seen more puppies in the last 9 months than I've seen in my entire life, I wager.

But working about two days a week at $7.25 an hour bites. Also, people are generally incredibly stupid when it comes to their pets. Going online and researching what would be best for your pup? Hell no! I'll just feed them Pedigree that costs $5 more than at the Target down the strip. What does it take to care for a Bearded Dragon? Who knows, I'll just buy crap by the reptile supplies and throw it in a tank and hope for the best.

Perhaps I'm acting a bit elitist, but I hate selling any reptile to people. Mostly because anybody who is really passionate about herpetology would NEVER buy a pet store animal. They're overly expensive, you don't know where they came from, and they most probably contain mites and/or intestinal parasites. We have a local reptile show here every few months. Breeders are plentiful online.

Also, I want to shoot myself when people (mostly rich looking women -- I live in a rather wealthy area) come in with their little backyard-bred in-style dogs. Screw you, Puggles, Bugs, whatever the fuck they come up with next. No good breeder in their RIGHT MIND would breed these. They're made entirely for profit. Real breeders breed for the betterment of the breed. They show or work with their stock and breeding is never considered a business. Plus, hey. Pet-quality puppies from quality breeders will almost always be cheaper than crap backyard-bred pups. Also, go to the shelters. We have awesome local shelters with awesome doggies. Oh, and local Greyhound adoption! How can you resist?

Anyway, enough bitching.

I'm moving on to a job that will eventually lead into my career. Yes, I'm becoming a Nursing Aid. I go in for my physical on Tuesday and my orientation starts on the 7th. I'll work at the same hospital my mom works at, so that's a bit odd. Oh well, save on gas I suspect.

I'll be working nights. Three days a week, 7pm to 7am. Not bad, I think. At $10.75 an hour, I'll take it! It's hard work, that's for sure. But I think I'll do fine. Hopefully.

After working there for so long, they will pay your way to Nursing School. I am sure as hell taking them up on that offer. It's just a matter of time now.

Wish me luck! :D

So, it's my birthday on the 31st and I have no idea what to do.

I'll be 20, so it's not like I can do anything I couldn't do last year. But I hit 20, so it should be a big deal, right?

I can't drink because the migraine meds I take make me sick if I down more than half a bottle of Mike's Hard Lemonade. I seriously lack male friends who aren't gay, so there goes anything sexy. I don't really stay in touch with my high school friends anymore, mostly because they either turned into raving feminazi bitches or alcoholic slutbags. And the guys are just being manhos with their new found homosexuality.

So it's just me and the family. If that doesn't wreak of fun, I don't know what does.

Any suggestions?

Todd Goldman is a plagarizing bastard

Just copy/pasting the note I wrote on my Facebook...

You may or may not know Todd Goldman. Basically, he is an "artist" that creates those oh-so-"funny" t-shirts and stupid crap you find at Hot Topic, etc. His website is http://www.davidandgoliathtees.com/

As it turns out, the man has been plagarizing a handful of artists and been making good money off the plagarized pieces. He's made up to $1000 on lithographs of the plagerized pieces and who knows how much in merchandise. It has been said here and there that he has infact made millions off of original pieces.

A few artists he has blatantly plagerized from are Roman Dirge (Lenore), Dave "Shmorky" Kelly (webcomic Purple Pussy, now does art for website Something Awful), and Jhonen Vasquez (Invader Zim, Johnny the Homicidal Maniac). He has gone so far as to TRACE the art of Dave Kelly. Not only has he plagarized art, many "internet phrases" he claims his own. It also seems he has gone so far as to GoogleImageSearch various pictures to copy. Just look at his website and be agast at all the familiar material.

Oh, and let me tell you, it gets worse...

Many people emailed Goldman direct from his website, calling him on his plagarizing. Goldman then sent out autoreply emails that contained pornographic pictures originally done by Dave Kelly (It was later reported by Kelly that these were not drawn by him). PORN! He did this, claiming that Dave Kelly was a "pedophile furry porn artist" (which he isn't). As many artists know, when you need to make money, you'll take any commission you'll get your hands on. Case in point for Kelly here. Kelly no longer does these pornographic commissions, deciding he didn't want to draw such filth ever again. Can't blame him.

Of course, a lot of the people that got this email were underage, so he got into a bit of trouble over that, but the lawsuit still hasn't begun.

The news outlets are just starting to get onboard with this issue and a court case will probably come of it.

Please pass this around the art community, or any community for that matter.

For more info, check out the main forum on http://www.SomethingAwful.com

Yeah, four-day weekend at home! Woohoo!

The first cycle just ended, and thus, my first four classes are OVER!! Woot. Here's a basic rundown:

Cognative Stratigies: A incredibly basic Psych. class. 45% of our grade was based on a 'Scavenger Hunt' around the city of Pittsburgh to get menus and signatures and crap. I barely did any of it (I got allll of the menus from other people) and I still got 95%.

The other grades in the classes were from 'Duuuuur' tests. All multiple choice questions that sounded just about like this:

1) If your friend was pressuring you to do drugs, this person would be considered a(n):

A. Toxic Friend
B. Mentor
C. Potato
D. Abraham Lincoln

(The answer is D, of course. Damn you and your peer pressure, Lincoln!)

Yeah...

Math: OH MY GOD SHOOT ME NOW. Can we say the easiest math class in the history of the world? While all my lovely friends at OSU or something are doing Trig and Calc, I'm doing such problems as 4+6, 2/8, and converting decimals into percents. I'M NOT KIDDING.

Oh, and our teacher looked just like Hurley from Lost if he was a woman.

Serv Safe: Our sanitation class. I'll never look at dining out the same way again. A collection of scaryass videos, along with long chapters on Salmonella, the proper internal temperature of cooked chicken (165F), and the various types of cockroaches. It was... a nice class right before lunch.

Kitchen (Intro to Baking: Breads): My absolute favorite class of the day. This was our actual kitchens class where cooking was done. Our chef, Pepka, was a very nice woman with a few kids of her own, so she could deal with us idiot teenagers and early-twenties just fine. Three hours a day scaling, mixing, shaping, proofing, and baking breads of all types. Sure, we all got tired of breads by the end (my two roommates are also pastry students, so we had a billion and a half loaves of bread in our room at any given time), but it was a great experience. I can now cook a kickass baguette with my eyes closed, even if I can't spell it.

Next cycle, which starts this coming Monday, has me waking up an hour later every day (woo! 9am!) and taking a computer class and.. something else. Haven't looked it up. Anyway, the computer class is the equivilant of BCA at Bay High. And, even with my MOUS certifigates, I can't get out of it. Only way out is with a college credit, which I lack. Damn.

Next kitchen in Laminated Breads, like crossaints, puff pastry, ect. Aka, doughs containing roughly three pounds of butter... joy. Our chef this time is Chef Hooker, an older gentlemen who is very old fashioned, by-the-books kinda guy. I love teachers like that, so I think I'll like the class very much.

Anyway, if any of you have been wondering why the hell I haven't been around, it's because my computer crapped out on me. Basically, my processor fan died and caused my poor old processor to over heat, which ment it couldn't stay turned on for more than.. oh, a minute, with out it restarting itself. So, my dad took it upon himself to build me a brand new one! (Out of Christmas money of course... I'll get like.. a card from him this year under the tree).

I should be up and operational normally probably on Tuesday. This weekend, though, I'll be here via my mom's computer. So, feel free to drop me a line or give me a call!

And to all my PCI friends: Only 10 more months!
